Raiders Dominate Centralia in Series Opener
Pierce College put together a complete performance on both sides of the ball in a dominant doubleheader sweep at Centralia on April 16, taking game one 5-2 before erupting for a 16-0 win in game two.
Game 1 - Pierce 5, Centralia 2
In the opener, Pierce leaned on timely hitting and a strong outing on the mound to secure the 5-2 victory. The Raiders collected 10 hits, with Tristan Ringrose leading the way with a 2-for-4 performance, while Hudson Cunningham added two hits and an RBI. Andrew Dyk delivered the biggest swing of the game, driving in three runs, including a two-RBI double in the fourth inning that gave Pierce the lead for good.
Pierce struck first in the third inning when Nariyuki Dumlao brought home Cunningham with an RBI single. After Centralia briefly answered, the Raiders responded in the fourth with Dyk’s clutch extra-base hit to regain control. Additional insurance runs came late, including an RBI sacrifice fly from Cunningham in the eighth and another run driven in by Dyk in the ninth.
On the mound, Vayden Lawrence earned the win with an impressive 7.2 innings of work, allowing just two runs while scattering eight hits. He worked through traffic and limited damage throughout his outing. Gavin Thunstrom closed the door over the final 1.1 innings to secure the win.
Game 2 - Pierce 16, Centralia 0
Game two was all Pierce from the start, as the Raiders exploded offensively and never looked back in a 16-0 rout. Pierce racked up 18 hits and 14 RBIs in the game, highlighted by a massive fifth inning that saw nine runs cross the plate.
Kai Halstead had a standout performance, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBIs and a walk. Jackson Copeland matched that production with three hits and three RBIs of his own, while Christian Dominno added three hits and drove in two runs. Nariyuki Dumlao and Andrew Dyk each contributed multi-hit efforts as the lineup produced up and down the order.
Pierce wasted no time getting on the board, with Halstead delivering a two-RBI single in the first inning. The Raiders continued to build their lead through the early innings before breaking the game wide open in the fifth, stringing together hits, walks, and productive outs to put the game out of reach.
On the mound, Freddy Frias-Moreno was dominant, tossing a complete game shutout. He allowed just six hits while striking out nine and walking none, keeping Centralia off balance all game long.
The sweep showcased Pierce’s depth, with consistent offensive production and strong pitching performances in both games, as the Raiders controlled the doubleheader from start to finish.
