Raider Roll Past Grays Harbor in Road Sweep

The Pierce College baseball team turned in a dominant performance on the road Thursday, April 9, sweeping Grays Harbor with convincing 9-4 and 19-1 victories to continue building momentum in NWAC West Region play.

Game 1: Pierce 9, Grays Harbor 4

Pierce jumped out early and never looked back in the opener, using timely hitting and a strong outing from Vayden Lawrence to secure a 9-4 win.

The Raiders wasted no time getting on the board in the first inning. A passed ball allowed Bradley Carl to score before Andrew Dyk added an RBI sacrifice fly to make it 2-0.

After Grays Harbor answered with two runs in the bottom of the second, Pierce quickly responded with a three-run top half. Nariyuki Dumlao drew a bases-loaded walk to bring in a run, another Raider crossed on a catcher’s error, and Tristan Ringrose lifted a sacrifice fly to center to stretch the lead to 5-2.

Jackson Copeland added to the advantage in the third inning with a solo home run, his latest big swing of the season, to push the lead to 6-2.

Pierce continued to add insurance throughout the game. Dyk ripped an RBI double in the fifth to score Kai Halstead, Dumlao came home on a passed ball in the sixth, and Dumlao drove in another run with a groundout in the eighth.

The Raiders erupted offensively in game two, scoring 19 runs on 14 hits in a run-rule victory to complete the sweep.

Pierce broke through in the second inning when Jeb English singled home Halstead for the game’s first run. Bradley Carl doubled in Christian Dominno in the third to make it 2-0 before the Raiders blew the game open with a 12-run fifth inning.

Pierce sent wave after wave of offense to the plate in the fifth. Carl drove in a run with a single, Halstead delivered a two-run single, Copeland added an RBI sacrifice fly, Hudson Cunningham doubled home a run, Dominno knocked in two with a single, Dumlao added an RBI single, and Carl capped the inning with a two-run homer.

Leading 14-0, the Raiders kept the pressure on in the sixth when Riley Sanoy crushed a grand slam to left, scoring Dominno, Cunningham, and Copeland to make it 18-1. Pierce added one final run in the seventh when Dominno singled home Copeland.

Dominno led the way with a huge game, going 3-for-5 with four runs scored and four RBIs. Carl was nearly unstoppable, finishing 3-for-4 with a double, a home run, four RBIs, and two runs scored. Sanoy made the most of his opportunities with a grand slam and four RBIs, while Cunningham scored three times and added two hits.
