Rangers Snap Raiders 11-Game Win Streak
The Pierce College baseball team earned a split against Olympic College on Thursday, April 30, taking game one 11-6 before falling 7-4 in game two. The loss in the nightcap snapped the Raiders’ 11-game winning streak and marked just their second loss in the last 14 games.
Game 1 - Pierce 11, Olympic 6
Pierce used a huge late-inning rally to erase a deficit and power past Olympic College 11-6 in the opener.
The Raiders got on the board early in the second inning when Christian Dominno drove in Jackson Copeland with a single to center field. Olympic responded by building a 5-1 advantage before Pierce stormed back in the seventh.
Bradley Carl delivered the biggest swing of the game with a go-ahead grand slam in the seventh inning, scoring Nariyuki Dumlao, Jeb English, and Andrew Dyk to put Pierce ahead 6-5.
The Raiders continued the offensive surge in the eighth inning, plating five more runs. Dumlao, Tristan Ringrose, Kai Halstead, and Yacel Limonta each drew RBI walks before Copeland capped the inning with a two-run single to extend the lead to 11-6.
Copeland finished 2-for-5 with two RBI and two runs scored, while Carl drove in four runs with his seventh-inning homer. Ringrose added a double, RBI, and run scored, and English crossed the plate twice.
On the mound, Vayden Lawrence tossed 6.2 innings, striking out four. Koshi Arai earned the win in relief after throwing 2.1 scoreless innings and allowing just three hits.
Game 2 - Olympic 7, Pierce 4
Olympic answered in game two, handing Pierce its first loss since April 2nd, with a 7-4 victory.
The Raiders jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first inning after RBI singles from Limonta and Copeland scored Bradley Carl and Kai Halstead.
Olympic chipped away before Pierce added another run in the fourth inning when Jeb English singled home Andrew Dyk to make it 3-1. The Rangers eventually took control with a pair of runs in the fifth and three more in the seventh to build a 7-3 lead.
Pierce attempted a late rally in the eighth inning when Tristan Ringrose doubled to right field to score Christian Dominno, but the Raiders could not close the gap further.
Ringrose led the offense by going 2-for-5 with a double and RBI. Dominno, Dyk, English, Limonta, and Copeland each added hits in the loss.
Freddy Frias-Moreno started on the mound for Pierce, allowing four runs over 4.2 innings. Gavin Thunstrom pitched three innings in relief, while Drechen Vinoray-Perreira closed the game with 1.1 scoreless innings and three strikeouts.
