The Pierce Raiders opened their four-game set at Wenatchee Valley with a split on Friday, March 20th, showcasing both offensive firepower and a tough late-game loss.
Game 1: Pierce 12, Wenatchee Valley 4
Pierce came out swinging in game one, racking up 12 runs on 12 hits in a dominant win. The Raiders set the tone early and never looked back, using timely hitting and a big seventh inning to pull away.
Bradley Carl led the charge offensively, going 2-for-4 with a home run, a double, and 3 RBIs. His two-run blast in the seventh inning helped break the game open. Tristan Ringrose added a strong performance, finishing 2-for-4 with a double, 2 runs scored, and an RBI, while Kai Halstead chipped in two hits and 2 RBIs. Andrew Dyk contributed with a pair of hits, including a double, and an RBI, and Christian Dominno delivered a key two-run single in the seventh inning to extend the lead.
On the mound, Gavin Thunstrom earned the win in relief, tossing five shutout innings while allowing just three hits and striking out three. After Wenatchee Valley cut the lead to 5-4 midway through the game, Thunstrom shut the door and allowed the Raiders’ offense to take control late.
Pierce scored multiple runs in the fifth, seventh, and eighth innings to secure the 12-4 victory.
Game 2: Wenatchee Valley 4, Pierce 3
Game two was a much tighter contest, with Pierce battling throughout before falling 4-3 in a walk-off loss in the bottom of the eighth inning.
The Raiders managed just four hits but made the most of their opportunities early. Kai Halstead scored the first run in the second inning, followed by an unearned run later in the frame after Hudson Cunningham swiped second base and came around to score on an error. Pierce tied the game at 3-3 in the fourth inning when Bradley Carl delivered an RBI single.
On the mound, the Raiders pieced together a solid effort. Michael LeJeune provided a strong outing in relief, throwing 2.2 scoreless innings with three strikeouts. However, Wenatchee Valley broke through in the bottom of the eighth with a game-winning single to hand Pierce the narrow loss.
