Bio

Brent Freeman, originally from New Zealand, has built a lifelong legacy in the sport of softball, both as an elite player and as a respected coach. Born and raised in Auckland, he is a graduate of Northcote College and spent 25 years competing at the highest levels of men’s fastpitch in New Zealand and the Pacific Northwest. His playing career included two international Gold Medal wins, reflecting his talent and dedication to the game.

Brent transitioned naturally into coaching after his playing days, bringing with him deep knowledge of the game and a passion for player development. While his coaching roots are in the men’s game—where he led his Gold Division team to two top-3 finishes at national championships and was named Coach of the Year three times—he has also made a strong impact on the local girls' select circuit. He has coached with well-known programs including the Acers and Washington Storm, and currently serves as a coach at Pierce, where he has been for the past two years. In total, Brent brings over 30 years of coaching experience to the field.

He holds two of the three levels of coaching certification from New Zealand, underscoring his commitment to professionalism and growth as a leader. Among his proudest achievements is finishing in the top 3 at the New Zealand Premier Men’s Nationals and earning multiple Coach of the Year honors from his local association.

Brent’s coaching philosophy emphasizes accountability, teamwork, and personal growth. He encourages his players to give 100% effort in every situation and to be responsible both on and off the field. His goal is to help athletes become better players and better teammates, and he supports them with a positive, encouraging approach.

Since moving to the United States in 2007, Brent has lived in Kent, Washington, with his wife Suzie, to whom he’s been married for over 30 years. Outside of coaching, he enjoys golfing, traveling, watching Mariners baseball, and spending quiet time at home or discovering new restaurants.

What keeps Brent passionate about coaching is the opportunity to remain connected to the sport he loves while helping athletes develop the skills and mindset needed to reach the next level. He hopes every player who works with him leaves not only improved on the field, but more confident, accountable, and prepared for future challenges in sport and life.
